Alexa Camarena-Michel, MD
Dr. Camarena-Michel is a board-certified medical toxicologist and emergency physician. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia before receiving her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. She subsequently completed four years of emergency medicine training at Denver Health and University of Colorado-Anschutz Hospitals. Dr. Camarena-Michel then completed a two-year fellowship at the Rocky Mountain Poison Center in Denver, Colorado. Following fellowship, she founded the medical toxicology service at UC Health Memorial Hospital, where she provided consultative expertise in the clinical management of poisoned patients. She currently divides her clinical time between practicing as an attending emergency physician within the UC Health Denver metro system and working as a medical toxicologist. As faculty with the Rocky Mountain Poison Center, she is actively involved in research and in the education of medical toxicology fellows and residents. Dr. Camarena-Michel is also pursuing a Master in Public Health (MPH) degree in Epidemiology through the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
